Reaching Leiden by train
From all major Dutch towns and airports regular trains depart for Leiden Central Station. From Schiphol Airport the journey takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
On foot from the railway station
From Leiden central railway station the UB can be reached on foot in 10-15 minutes.
A convenient walking route would be to cross the railway station square, following Stationsweg and continuing on Steenstraat. Cross the Blauwpoort bridge on the left hand side after Beestenmarkt square, and turn right immediately, following Prinsessekade and crossing Kort Rapenburg. Continue along Rapenburg canal, keeping to the right hand side of the water. Turn right at Doelensteeg alley, turn left when your arrive at the Lipsius building and turn right once more. Cross the bridge to find the UB right across the street. An alternative route can be found here.
From Leiden central railway station, you can take Arriva bus line 1 (direction Leiderdorp Alrijne Zkh) and bus line 3 (direction Station De Vink). The bus stop in front of the university library is called Paterstraat.
Leiden city center may be reached via either the A4 or the A44 motorway, depending on where your journey originates from.
In Leiden city center and near surroundings, parking is never for free. Leiden city parking facilities map shows both the major car parks in town and the parking rates charged. Leiden University has its own parking facilities but the options for visitors are limited.
